After losing the first set, the Cerritos College volleyball team rebounded to win three straight sets and finished off visiting East Los Angeles College, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22. The win keeps the Falcons (11-8, 8-3) in a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference with three matches remaining. The team will travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College next Wednesday and then play their final two matches at home. They are tied for second place with Mt. San Antonio College, who still has to face first place El Camino College.

The Falcons started slow against the Huskies (11-11, 5-6), but slowly gained momentum as the match continued. In the second set, they took control from the outset and posted a fairly comfortable win. The all-important third set started quickly for Cerritos, but ELAC worked their way back to within three points. But a couple of kills from sophomore Lisa Villarroel (Long Beach Millikan HS/Long Beach City College) and several attack errors by East LA secured the third set.

East Los Angeles took a 6-2 lead in the fourth set and then upped their advantage to 14-6 until the Falcons called timeout. Seven straight points got Cerritos back into the game and then the teams traded points until the Falcons eventually led, 22-18. With the team serving for match point, the Huskies stormed back and got to within 24-22 until at attack error secured the win.

Sophomore Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS) led the team with 11 kills and also had 11 digs, while Villarroel accounted for nine kills and three blocks. Sophomore setter Michelle Barba (Downey HS) directed the offense with 26 assists, while sophomore Jasmin Mitchell (Warren HS) was strong at the net and finished the night six six blocks along with her three kills.
