Volleyball: Team posts win over LA Trade-Tech

In their last three wins, the Cerritos College volleyball team has recorded them in straight sets. That held true on Friday when the Falcons (5-8, 1-1) posted a 25-7, 25-14, 25-4 South Coast Conference South Division win over host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College. The team will get a big test on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. when they host crosstown rival Long Beach City College in another divisional game.

Aiding the Falcons in their win on Friday was the service accuracy of sophomore Nadia Arreaga (L.A.C.E.S. HS). She posted 10 service aces in the third set alone, while Cerritos recorded an astonishing 23 service aces on the night. Additionally, freshman Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS), who directed the offense with 16 assists, posted seven aces of her own, with six different players checking in with at least one ace. The team also kept rallies going with their defensive efforts and were led by sophomore Jody Suski (Cerritos HS), who had a match-high 22 digs.

The offense was led by freshman Alexia Torres (Downey HS), who had 10 kills, while Suski finished with eight kills in the win. Freshmen Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) and Madison Wybenga (Valley Christian HS) combined for 10 kills, with Hernandez-Hardy adding 14 digs. Arreaga contributed five kills, with freshman Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) sharing the setting duties with Vega and dished out 15 assists.
