Facing one of the better teams in Southern California, the Cerritos College volleyball team had Long Beach City College on their heels in one of their sets. Although the Falcons (5-9, 1-2) were swept, 15-25, 25-27, 17-25, they had the Vikings (14-2, 3-0) facing set point twice, but couldn't extend the match. Cerritos will look to earn a win on Friday when they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 6:00 p.m. South Coast Conference South Division match.

In that second set, Long Beach City led, 17-11 before Cerritos scored the next six points to tie the match. Freshman Brooke Winquist (Lakewood HS) took the match into her hands, as she slammed home three kills and recorded a solo block during that rally. That was followed by a kill and service ace by Winquist that put the Falcons in front, 20-19. It was a 23-21 Cerritos lead after a Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) kill, before Winquist put them in position to serve for the set at 24-23 after another kill. Winquist got them to serve for set point a second time after another kill to make the score 25-24. However, the Vikings recorded the next three points of the set to take a commanding 2-0 sets lead on the night.

Long Beach City started to pull away in the third set after the score was tied, 4-4. The Vikings Jessica Blakeman came on to record six of their next eight points with kills and the Falcons would only get as close as 12-9 before succumbing the match.

Winquist finished with 10 kills and three service aces, while freshman Alexia Torres (Downey HS) contributed five kills, with both Suski and freshman Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) checking in with four kills each. Suski also led the team with 10 digs, while freshman Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS) posted nine digs and a team-high 13 assists. Sophomore Regan Stanton (Lakewood HS/Long Beach CC) added nine digs from the back row, with Hernandez-Hardy finishing with six digs. Freshman setter Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) came on to dish out 11 assists.
