Volleyball: Cerritos looks to get back in the win column

After getting swept for the second straight match, the Cerritos College volleyball team will look to get back into the win column next Friday when they travel to Rio Hondo College for a South Coast Conference crossover match. On Friday, the Falcons (5-10, 1-3) were swept by host Los Angeles Harbor College, 20-25, 18-25, 15-25, which marks the third straight time they have lost to the Seahawks, dating back to last season.

The team struggled at the net, as well as with their service. Of the five players that recorded kills in the match, only two finished with a positive kill percentage. Additionally, the Falcons recorded 10 service errors and had just one ace. Freshman Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) led the team with eight kills, with sophomore Jody Suski (Cerritos HS) finishing with four kills and a team-high 17 digs. The other three players who recorded kills and finished with three each.

In the back row, sophomore Regan Stanton (Lakewood HS/Long Beach CC) checked in with 15 digs, with freshman Alexia Torres (Downey HS) recording three kills and three solo blocks. The freshman setting tandem of Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS) and Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) combined for 16 assists on the night.
