Playing their first match in two weeks, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by host Mt. San Antonio College, 23-25, 15-25, 20-25 on Tuesday in a make-up game. The Falcons, who still have another match to make-up, will be busy over the next week, as they host three opponents. First up is El Camino College (11-12, 9-4), who defeated Cerritos (11-7, 7-5) in five sets in their first meeting. The Falcons currently sit in fifth place in the South Coast Conference with four matches remaining, while the Warriors are in third place.

The rust on the Falcons showed early, as they fell behind, 7-0 in the first set, but fought their way back and and even led, 23-21. They were unable to hold off the Mounties, who scored the next three points to win the set and carried that momentum against a team that seemed to just run out of gas.

The freshman duo of Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) and Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS) combined to record 15 kills for Cerritos, while Harris-Amete also played a great match in the back row with 15 digs. Freshman libero Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) was all over the court over the three sets and checked in with 20 digs, while the hitting tandem of freshmen Maleah Gonzales (Schurr HS) and Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) each finished with five kills. Freshman setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) dished out 22 assists and also produced six digs and three kills.
