With one non-conference match remaining before the start of the South Coast Conference season, the Cerritos College volleyball team is still looking to lock down that first victory. On Friday night, the Falcons (0-6) were swept by host Golden West College, 7-25, 22, 25, 14-25. Cerritos will host Los Angeles Pierce College at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday.

Against the Rustlers (3-2), Cerritos got off to a slow start and quickly dropped the first set. Although they played better as the match progressed, the Falcons could not score the points necessary to produce a win.

Sophomore Abby Gutierrez (Downey HS) led the team with seven kills, while freshman Kaydence Portillo (Bell Gardens HS) chipped in with six kills and a pair of block assists. Sophomore setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) dished out 16 assists, while sophomore Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) recorded 11 digs from the back row.
