Looking to sweep East Los Angeles College in their first South Coast Conference series, the Cerritos College baseball team posted a 3-1 win on Friday. The game, which was scheduled to be played at noon on Saturday, was moved up a day due to the impeding rain. The Falcons (10-4, 3-0) will now start a three-game series with El Camino College, with the first game set for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Torrance.

Andrew Arguello pitched six innings to earn the win In need of a quality start, sophomore Andrew Arguello (La Serna HS/Orange Coast College) struggled through the first three innings, but only allowed one run, while surrendering six hits to go along with two hit batters and a walk. In the top of the first inning, the Huskies (2-12, 0-3) got a pair of runners into scoring position with two outs until Aguello struck out Davion Valdivia to end the threat. He hit Jacob Lopez to lead off the second inning and after a single by Luis Rojas, came home on a bunt single from Matthew Wells. With the bases loaded, Aguello induced a ground ball by Francisco Avena, who was doubled up to stop the Huskies from adding to their total.

The bases were loaded once again in the third inning with two outs, but Arguello (2-2) got Rojas to fly out. Over the course of the next three innings, Arguello (pictured, left) retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced. Freshman Aurelio Colon (Verdugo Hills HS) saw East Los Angeles load the bases in the top of the eighth inning after a hit batter and two walks. But pinch-hitter Anthony Gomez struck out and Nico Bobadilla fouled out. Sophomore John Chavez (St. John Bosco HS) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his second save.

Offensively, Cerritos finally started to get to starter Steven Villagran in the fifth inning and scored twice. With one out sophomore first baseman Nicholas Martinez (La Serna HS) singled through the left side of the infield and advanced to second base when sophomore outfielder Bodie Parker (Cajon HS/Chaffey College) was hit by a pitch. The bases were loaded after sophomore outfielder Shea Estrin (West HS) singled through the left side, which set the table for the Falcons hottest hitter. Sophomore Owen Beebe (Long Beach Millikan HS/Golden West College), who didn't collect his first hit of the season until the ninth game of the season, singled up the middle to tie the game. The Falcons took the lead when sophomore Buck Anderson (Lakewood HS/Cal State Bakersfield) was hit by a pitch.

Beebe, who's 6-for-6 with a walk in his last seven plate appearances, led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single and was then safe at second on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Anderson. Freshman infielder Andres Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) followed with a sacrifice bunt, with Beebe beating the throw to third base to load the bases. A base hit to the right side by freshman outfielder Nolan Brown (Long Beach Poly HS) accounted for the team's third run.
