In the first of their three-game series against Long Beach City College, the Cerritos College baseball team dropped an 8-2 South Coast Conference decision on Wednesday. The game was originally slated for Tuesday, but was pushed back a day due to wet conditions. As a result, the two teams will meet up again tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Kincaid Field.

The Vikings (15-11, 8-5) jumped on board in the bottom of the first inning with three runs on five hits off freshman starting pitcher Steven Salazar (Sonora HS). After ending the inning on a double play, Salazar (1-5) retired six of the next seven batters he faced.

Picking up single runs in the second and third innings, the Falcons (8-18-1, 4-12) pulled to within 3-2. In the top of the second inning, freshman outfielder Lucas Iorgulescu (Marina HS) reached on an error, moved to second base on a wild pitch and then scored when freshman catcher Daniel Mariscal, Jr. (Long Beach Poly HS) doubled to center. Sophomore second baseman Andy Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) drew a two-out walk in the third inning and moved to second base when sophomore designated hitter Alex Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) was hit by a pitch. Freshman first baseman Sawyer Chesley (Laguna Beach HS) followed with an RBI single, but Cerritos wasn't able to add to that total.

It was a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning that made it a 5-2 LB City lead, while they added three more runs in the eighth inning.

After the RBI single from Chesley, the Falcons collected just two hits the remainder of the game. In the top of the eighth, Bueno and Chesley each reached base on a hit batter and walk, respectively, but that would be the last of their scoring chances.
