Over the course of their 13-game winning streak, the Cerritos College baseball team was able to come up with clutch runs in the final third of several games. However, on Saturday night, the Falcons (22-4, 13-2) could not pull off another comeback and dropped a 6-5 South Coast Conference decision to host East Los Angeles College. The team will play three non-conference games next week, starting with a home-and-home series with Los Angeles Mission College on the road on Tuesday.

Trailing, 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning, Cerritos was able to score four times to open a 4-2 advantage. The Huskies responded with three runs in the bottom of the stanza to re-take the lead eventually and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In their four-run fifth inning, sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College) led off with a single and came home on a double by freshman catcher Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS). A walk and an infield out put runners at second and third base, which set the table for freshman outfielder Isaiah Rios(St. John Bosco HS), who doubled in a run. Cerritos took a 3-2 lead when freshman second baseman Dylan Immel (El Segundo HS) followed with an RBI single, with a second run scoring on an error.

The Falcons did have a chance to score in the seventh inning after base hits by Rios and sophomore third baseman Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College). Neither would be able to come around to score, with Cerritos only getting one more hit the remainder of the game.

Freshman starting pitcher Myles Johnson (Katella HS) gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings of work while he struck out four and walked five. He walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, which was followed by a two-run single. Sophomore relief pitcher Calix Armijo (Mary Star of the Sea HS) suffered the loss, with the winning run scoring on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Rios finished the game, 3-for-5 with two doubles, and RBI and two runs scored, with Bassett also going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
