Football is back in Falcon Stadium! After missing the 2020 season due to Covid-19, the Cerritos College football team will open their season on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against Pasadena City College. Although there will not be any fans in the stadium, the Falcons were able to get the great group from SoCal College Sorts to broadcast the game live. The game, which will be held at Falcon Stadium, will be the first in the facility since November 9, 2019.

The Falcons (7-4 in 2019) have three starters returning on offense and seven on defense for head coach Dean Grosfeld, who is in his fourth season, with this being the third of competition. Gone from the 2019 season are 14 players who moved on to four-year universities.

Anchoring the defense will be unanimous all-conference defensive end Logan Applewhite, while he will be supported by all-conference linebacker Victor Clanton. The secondary has a lot of experience with safeties Omari Okeke and DeMario King providing the most experience. The team will also be reinforced with a couple of transfers.

The offense has several question marks, due to inexperience, but there is depth in the skill positions. Red-shirt freshman quarterback Jordan Simpson and incoming freshman Cade McConnell have been battling for the most playing time. McConnell is the son of former Falcon starting quarterback Sean McConnell (1988-89), who went on to play at East Carolina University. The backfield will rotate multiple players, with sophomore J'lon Manning coming back with the most experience. Newcomers Isaiah Blevins and Davin Booth have looked impressive. The wide receivers are plentiful with only Bailey Torres (two receptions) returning from 2019.

Offensive tackle David Ibarra will be one in a long line of talented linemen to come from Cerritos, while Sydney Solomon is the only other returner with collegiate experience.

Cerritos leads the all-time series against Pasadena City College, 22-15, which includes wins in their last five meetings.
