In a season where the Cerritos College football team went 5-5, with four of the losses by a total of 16 points, the team has been selected to face San Diego Mesa College (7-3) in the Western State Bowl at 6:00 p.m. next Saturday. The Falcons, who tied for second place in the National Central League, will travel to San Diego to take on an Olympians team that tied for second place in the Western Southern League.

"This is a great opportunity for our football program," said head coach Dean Grosfeld, who has led his teams to postseason bowl games in all three seasons he's led the program.

The Falcons lost back-to-back games this season in league play by last-second field goals, which kept them out of the playoffs. But the bowl game is a boost for the program, as they get ready to play in their 30th postseason game in school history. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2019 when San Diego Mesa posted a 23-22 win, which came down to a touchdown and two-point conversion with 1:00 left in the fourth quarter. Cerritos leads the overall series, 22-7-1 and had won nine in a row until the 2019 meeting.

SD Mesa opened the season 5-1, but went 2-2 in their final two games. The teams have faced three common opponents, with the Falcons going 0-3 and the Olympians posting a 3-0 record.

Ticket information will be released soon.
