Playing in the tough National Division Central League means that every week is a tough battle for the Cerritos College football team. Coming off a bye last week, the Falcons traveled to #2-ranked Mt. San Antonio College, where they were handed a 29-7 defeat. The loss was the second in a row for the Falcons (3-3, 1-2) who will look to end their skid next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Citrus College. It will make just the third meeting against the Owls, with the last being in 2009 when Cerritos posted a 21-16 win.

It was a close 7-7 game in the first quarter after freshman quarterback Andre Lampley (St. John Bosco HS) stepped in for injured quarterback Dylan Eldredge (Cypress HS) and tossed a six-yard scoring strike to freshman Isaiah Blair (Downey HS) on their first offensive possession. Eldredge had completed a 51-yard pass to sophomore wide receiver Michael Bruner (Long Beach Wilson HS), which put the ball at the Mounties five-yard line. Two players later, the Falcons scored to tie the game.

That would be all the offense on the night for the Falcons, who fell behind, 9-7 after sophomore Tyler Henry (St. Anthony HS/Fort Lewis, CO College) was tackled in the end zone after trying to return a punt. By halftime, it was 16-7, with Mt. SAC adding 13 more second half points.

The Falcons crossed midfield just three more times the remainder of the game, with their best scoring opportunity coming on their last drive of the game. Lampley (8-for-18, 126 yards) completed passes to freshman wide receivers Gavin Porch (Los Alamitos HS) and Chase Grosfeld (Los Alamitos HS) to get to the Mt. SAC 10-yard line. On the next play, Lampley was picked off in the end zone to end their drive.

Defensively, freshman Kevonte Henry (Leuzinger HS) led the team with eight tackles and also shared on a tackle for loss, while sophomore Zedekiah Rodriguez-Brown (Los Altos HS) picked off his team-leading fifth pass of the season.
