After capturing the South Coast Conference regular season and tournament championships, the Cerritos College men's soccer team was honored with 11 of their players receiving awards. In addition to that, head coach Benny Artiaga was named the South Division Coach of the Year for the second season in a row, which is the seventh time in his tenure he's received the award.

The Falcons, who enter the Southern California Regional Playoffs as the #1-seeded team, swept through the awards, as sophomore Pablo Caparelli (Real Salt Lake Academy, UT HS) was voted the Co-Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore Alfredo Ortiz (Oscar De La Hoya HS/East Los Angeles College) was named the Defensive Player of the Year and freshman Steven Ruiz (Cathedral HS) was voted the Co-Goalie of the Year.

Also earning 1st Team recognition were sophomores Antonio Negrete (St. John Bosco HS), Ernesto Vergara (Salesian HS) and Uriel Sanchez (Servite HS), who are all two-time selections, along with sophomore Raul Ortiz (Oscar De La Hoya HS/East Los Angeles College). The quartet of Miguel Martinez (Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy HS), Kobe Chavez (North Hollywood HS), Julian Vazquez (Salesian HS) and Gabriel Oropeza (Banning HS/Hope International University) were all 2nd Team picks.

Caparelli, a two-time 1st Team selection, has posted eight goals and a team-leading 10 assists through the regular season. In six games this season, he posted a goal and an assist, while Caparelli had a seven-game point scoring streak, where the Falcons won all seven games. As for Ortiz, he was amazing throughout the season in his ability to work the ball out of trouble, while at the same time, also being involved in the offense. He posted a pair of goals and assisted on eight others. He had a goal and an assist in the Falcons win over Mt. San Antonio College in the conference tournament championship game.

Ruiz, who started the season rotating in net with freshman Juan Pablo Camacho (Norwalk HS), took over the sole duty when Camacho went down with an injury. Since taking over as the sole keeper, Ruiz has gone 5-0-0 with three shutouts. In the regular season, he had five complete game shutouts and played one half in five others. He has a remarkable 0.50 goals against average on the year with 27 saves.

Chavez leads the team with 11 goals on the year, including a pair of goals in three separate games, to go along with his six assists, with Negrete second on the team with 10 goals. Negrete scored a pair of goals in three separate shutout wins during the season and added three helpers. One of the team's better creators of offense, Sanchez was only able to score three times this season, but added six assists. Using his speed on the outside, Sanchez had a four-game point scoring streak, which included a goal and assist against Long Beach City College. Along with his twin brother Alfredo, Raul Ortiz was a key component to the team's defensive success this season. Although he didn't provide the same type of offense as his brother, his steady play was important to the overall success of the defense and goalkeeping.

The duo of Vazquez and Oropeza combined for 16 goals and 10 assists and let other teams know that they would have to be wary of multiple players who could strike at any time. Vazquez scored a pair of goals in a game twice during the season, which included four in the span of five games, with Oropeza opening his Falcon career with a two-goal game. He also registered two goals and three assists in a 7-0 win over Compton College. Listed as a midfielder, Martinez was a two-time 2nd Team selection due to his defensive skills. Asked to drop back and help on defense, Martinez was just as instrumental as any defensive player on the roster. He scored his lone goal of the year in the season opener.
