In the four distance races that took place at the Southern California Prelims at Antelope Valley College on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team had eight runners finish in the top six. As a team, the Falcons will be advancing a large ground to the Southern California Championships, which will take place at Antelope Valley next Saturday.

The finals were held in the 10,000 meters and Cerritos had a pair of runners earn points for the team in the overall scoring. Sophomore Munir Kahssay (Western HS), who came in second place at the state championships last season, posted a time of 32:20.12 to come in second on Saturday, while freshman Omar Torres (Warren HS) came in sixth place in 33:11.10. The Falcons comprised four of the top seven finishers in the 1500 meters, with freshman Jonathan Bazinet (California HS) leading the pack with a first place time of 4:03.96. Sophomore DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach Poly HS) placed third in 4:04.30, with freshman Paul Mora in fourth place at 4:08.00. Sophomore Thomas Poston (El Dorado HS) rounded out the top seven runners in a time of 4:05.61.

Sophomore Dionbrea Norris (Long Beach Millikan HS), who already has a state championship"A" qualifying height in the high jump and distance in the triple jump, did not clear a height or record a distance in those two events on Saturday. His long jump of 6.90 meters put him in 10th place, but Norris has a state "B" qualifying distance.

The duo of freshmen Adam Aguirre (Cantwell HS) and Lenin Dolmos (Downey HS) were part of an eight-place tie for first with a height of 1.97 meters in the high jump, while Aguirre slipped to 15th in the javelin with a toss of 47.11.
