In their first action in nearly two years, the Cerritos College men's water polo team opened the 2021 campaign with an 18-13 win over Sierra College at the North vs. South Tournament. Playing at Merced College, the Falcons opened the day with a scrimmage against Las Positas College before their win over the Wolverines. The team was scheduled to play another match, but had it canceled when American River College had to withdraw from the tournament. Cerritos (1-0) will take on the host Blue Devils at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday and then finish with a 10:45 a.m. match against Modesto Junior College.

The lone match of the day saw the Falcons outscore Sierra in the first three quarters to take a commanding 15-8 lead. For Cerritos, they got goals from nine different players, with the duo of sophomores Mario Vanzillotta (Colegio Palas, Brazil) and Ben Neppl (Long Beach Millikan HS) each scoring four times. They each scored twice in a six-goal third period, which helped the team open up their lead. The match was as close as 9-6 early in the third period, before Vanzillotta scored, followed by a pair of Neppl to start pulling away.

Additionally, freshman Dominic Hernandez (Schurr HS) posted three goals and a team-high four assists, with sophomore Juan Anguiano (Kennedy HS) adding a pair of goals. Sophomore Eduardo Rodriguez (Buena Park HS) had three assists, while freshman goalkeeper Owen Fahringer (Long Beach Millikan HS) turned away nine shots in recording the win.
