On Saturday morning, the Cerritos College men's cross country team opened their 2022 season running at Sylvan Park in the Redlands Invitational. The Falcons finished with 202 team points, which put them in seventh place overall with four of the colleges ahead of them being four-year universities. Next Saturday, the team will travel to the Fresno Invitational, which will be held at Woodward Park, and serves as the site of the CCCAA State Championships.

Of the 112 entries in the race, freshman Jose Garcia Chavez (Norwalk HS) was the ninth community college runner to complete the 6K course. He turned in a 49th place time of 20:48.0 and edged out two other runners at the finish line. The duo of freshman Aiden House-Ortiz (Lakewood HS) and sophomore Rogelio Garcia (Salesian HS) completed the course 32 seconds apart, with House-Ortiz posted a time of 22:26.0, which put him in 76th place overall. As for Garcia, his time of 23:08.0 put him in a tie for 79th place. Crossing the finish line 15 seconds later was freshman Alan Diaz (Katella HS) in a time of 23:23.0, good for 83rd place.

Rounding out the team scoring was freshman Jeff Chmiel (Lakewood HS), who placed 94th when he completed the course in a time of 24:55.0 and finished just ahead of two other runners. Also competing for the Falcons were Daniel Gomez (Santa Fe HS; 25:41.0; 98th place), Jose Ortiz (Norwalk HS; 26:17.0, 99th place), Angel Serrano (South Gate HS; 27:15.0; 104th place) and Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS; 27:48.0; 106th place).
