St. Paul HS: While on the track and field team, he won the Del Rey League championship in the 400 meters (52.89) as a senior after coming in second place his junior year… Also competed in the 800 meters (2:10)… Was a member of the cross country, track and field and soccer teams…..

Personal: Most memorable moments were when he set his personal best times… His sister Ariel (26) was a cross country and track athlete at Cerritos and then at Cal State Los Angeles, while his twin brother Joseph (19) will be his teammate this season… Hobbies include bodyboarding surfing… Nicknamed “Joe”… Has another sister – Emily (10)… Is the son of Jose Melendez… Born in Whittier, CA on April 10, 2004…..
