M. Cross Country: Falcons place 10th in first meet of the season

In their first action of the season, the Cerritos College men's cross country team got a look at the course they hope to run at the 3C2A State Championships in November. The Falcons finished in 10th place at the Fresno Invitational on Friday, as they compiled 264 team points. They were nine points shy of placing eighth, as Hartnell posted 256 team points. The team will run in the Oxnard Invitational next Friday.

The first Cerritos runner to complete the course was freshman Tyler Villanueva (Warren HS), who posted a 42nd place time of 22:24.41, while freshman teammate Noah Addison (Long Beach Poly HS) was not far behind in a time of 22:32.99, which put him in 49th place overall out of 171 entries.

It was another 26 seconds before the third Falcon completed the course, with freshman Jacob Cosio (California HS) posting a time of 22:58.65, good for 62nd place, with freshmen Matthew Alvarez (Downey HS) and Benjamin Ramons rounding out the team scoring. Alvarez was 67th overall in a time of 23:04.03, with Ramos checking in with a time of 23:07.66, good for 70th place.

Also running for the Falcons were Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS; 23:14.97; 75th place), Luke Dias (Fountain Valley HS; 23:16.98; 77th place), Edwin Matias (Bell Gardens HS; 23:17.44; 78th place), Jeff Chmiel (Lakewood HS; 24:10.01; 99th place), Shanal De Silva (Warren HS; 24:52.94; 123rd place), David Morales (El Rancho HS; 24:53.53; 124th place) and Jose Ortiz (Norwalk HS; 27:27.82; 158th place).
