Locked in a scoreless game through the first three innings, the Cerritos College softball team went on an offensive surge and scored 10 times to post a 10-0 win in six innings against host Riverside City College on Tuesday. The shutout win was the second in a row for the Falcons (2-1), who open South Coast Conference play on Thursday when they host a 3:00 p.m. game against Mt. San Antonio College. Freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) limited the Tigers (1-2) to just two hits and worked out of a sixth inning situation, as she recorded the final out of the game with the bases loaded. Islas (1-0), who earned a save in the team's 2-0 win over Southwestern College on Saturday, struck out seven batters.

Leading 3-0 after five innings, Cerritos pushed seven runs across the plate to put the game out of reach. With one out, Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) singled and stole second base. She moved to third on a base hit by Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) and came home on the throw when Sotelo stole second base. The Falcons loaded the bases when Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) drew a walk and Miranda Diaz (California HS) singled up the middle.

Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) then stepped up and singled down the left field line, which drove in a run, with Richere Leduc (California HS) clearing the bases with a double to make it an 8-0 lead. An RBI single from Negasse Williams (Aliso Niguel HS) was followed by a run-scoring triple from Angelica Gonzalez (Sierra Vista HS) to close out the scoring.

The Falcons, who at one time, led the state in walks for five seasons in a row, drew 12 on the day against three Tigers pitchers. They collected just eight hits on the day with Williams (two RBI) and Bedolla (two runs) each recording a pair. Leduc drove in three and was walked three times, while Najera also collected three free passes.
