For just the second time in their last 20 meetings, the Cerritos College softball team defeated South Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College. On Thursday, the Falcons (15-4, 6-2) won their sixth game in a row, as they defeated the #1-ranked Mounties, 2-0. Aside from a playoff win in 2019, Cerritos had not defeated Mt. San Antonio since the 2014 season. The win also snapped the Mounties 42-game conference winning streak dating back to 2018. The #10-ranked Falcons will now travel to #6-ranked Cypress College on Saturday for a noon non-conference game.

Freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) allowed just three runners to reach base heading into the sixth inning, with the Mounties collecting their lone hit in the sixth with two outs. She went on to strick out seven batters and allowed three walks, while tossing the one-hit complete game. Islas (9-1) redeemed herself after allowing the Mounties to score four times in the top of the seventh inning in their first meeting back on February 3.

Offensively, Cerritos scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. They drew a pair of walks in the first inning, but stranded both runners, while they left freshman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) in scoring position in the third inning after her one-out double.

The only run the team would need came in the fourth inning when freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) led off with a solo home run. It was her second round-tripper of the season.

Leduc drew a one-out walk in the sixth inning and advanced to third on a single by freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS). Freshman third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) then drove her home with a base hit.

Sotelo had two of the team's five hits on the day, while Leduc scored both runs.
