With a chance to put more distance from themselves and Long Beach City College for second place in the South Coast Conference standings, the Cerritos College softball team suffered a 6-2 loss to the Vikings on Thursday. As a result, the Falcons (24-10, 12-4) are now just percentage points ahead of LB City (24-9, 13-5). Cerritos has five conference games remaining and will travel to East Los Angeles College next Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game.

Cerritos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) and freshman second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) each drew walks to lead off the stanza. After a fielder's choice, freshman third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) tripled home both runs.

Looking to add to their lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Falcons loaded the bases on singles by Bedolla, and freshmen outfielders Negasse Williams (Aliso Niguel HS) and Angelica Gonzalez (Sierra Vista HS). They were unable to cash in on the opportunity, which opened the door for Long Beach City to get on the board. They put the game out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as an opening error led to the final two runs being unearned.

Bedolla went 3-for-3 on the day and drove in both runs.
