Cerritos College freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) tossed a 2-0 shutout against Santiago Canyon College on Saturday at Nancy Kelly Field. The Falcons (28-10), who won all four of their games this week, including the last three consecutive days, will close out their regular season with a pair of South Coast Conference games against Rio Hondo College. The two teams will meet at Nancy Kelly Field at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The win over the Hawks (28-10) kept Cerritos in third in RPI points in Southern California heading into the final week of the regular season.

Islas (20-6) received all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, freshman third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) drew a walk and stole second base. She then came home on a double from freshman catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS), who then was driven in on a double from freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS).

Santiago Canyon had a pair of runners on base in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but could not get the hit required to score. Islas got fly outs to end the fourth and fifth inning, while she struck out Jade Costa and then Alexandra Molina flew out to end the sixth inning. Islas retired the seventh inning in order to pick up the complete game win.

Aside from the first inning, the Falcons collected only a two-out single from freshman shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) in the second inning and a two-out double from freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS).
