Holding a 3-0 lead through the first five innings, the Cerritos College softball team looked to be prepared to play a second game on Saturday in their Southern California Super Regional. However, visiting Santiago Canyon College scored a single run in the sixth inning, tied the game in the seventh and scored the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning for a 4-3 win and 2-0 series victory. The loss ends the #2-seeded Falcons (32-12) season, while the Hawks (33-12), who were seeded #7, move on to the CCCAA State Championships.

After Santiago Canyon tied the game in the top of the seventh inning, Cerritos was able to load the bases after consecutive singles from freshman third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS), freshman second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) and freshman catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS). With one out, freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) lined out to third base for the second out, while a flyout by freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) left the bases loaded.

The Hawks, who were held hitless through the first four inning, drew a leadoff walk to start the eighth inning against freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS). After a sacrifice bunt, Lindsey Marschall stole second base. Then, with two outs, Riley Piattoni singled to centerfield, which brought home the winning run.

The final out in the bottom of the eighth inning wasn't without controversy. With two outs, freshman outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS), who made two run-saving catches in the outfield earlier in the game, dropped a bunt. The throw to first base was off line, causing a collision. Capps was on her way to second base until the home plate umpire stepped in and called Capps for runner interference, thus ending the Falcons season.
