Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning against host Ventura College on Friday, the Cerritos College softball team was able to push across one run, but came up short in a 2-1 decision. The Falcons (2-4) will look to snap their three-game losing skid when they host Southwestern College at 2:30 p.m. next Wednesday.

In the seventh inning, freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) led off with a walk and stole second base. With one out, sophomore shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) delivered an RBI single to draw the team to within a run. After freshman pinch-runner Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) stole second base, the Falcons were unable to score the tying run.

Ventura scored single runs in the second and third inning off sophomore starting pitcher Courtney Callison (Santa Fe HS), who pitched the first four inning and allowed five hits. Freshman Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) came on in relief and limited the Pirates to three hits in her 1 1/3 innings of work.

Cerritos had several chances to score earlier in the game, as sophomore designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) led off the third inning with a double, advanced to third and was stranded. Diaz also led off the fifth inning, but could not advance any further.
