After battling back to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning against host Cypress College on Monday, the Cerritos College softball team surrendered six runs in the bottom of the inning. The end result was a 9-3 loss to the Chargers (13-2). The Falcons (8-6) are slated to travel to Rio Hondo College on Tuesday, but rain could cause the postponement of the game.

In the top of the fifth inning, freshman catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton HS) led off with a walk, with sophomore Haley VanLaar (Method Schools, GA HS/Merrimack, MA College) coming on to pinch-run. After stealing second base, sophomore outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) drew a walk. Sophomore second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) followed with a base hit, which plated VanLaar, while an error also allowed Capps to come around and score. With Sotelo on third base at the end of the play, a fly ball by freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) drove in Sotelo.

With the score now 3-3, Cypress was able to respond with six runs in the bottom of the stanza. Cerritos started a rally in the top of the seventh inning, with Sotelo, Macias and sophomore Richere Leduc (California HS) all reaching base on singles. However, they would not be able to score any runs and dropped the game, 9-3.
