With two outs in the top of the seventh inning and trailing by a run, freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) clubbed a two-run single, which propelled the Cerritos College softball team to a 3-2 South Coast Conference win on Monday. The win was the fifth in a row for the Falcons (18-10, 10-3) and eighth in their last nine games. Their only loss was against Mt. San Antonio College, who they will face in Walnut for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

After the first out was recorded, sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) and sophomore designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) each singled. The bases were then loaded when sophomore outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) reached on an error in an attempt to advance the runners on a bunt. A fielder's choice force out at the plate set the table for Macias, who drove in a pair of runs to put the Falcons in front, 3-2.

Sophomore pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS), who came in in relief to start the third inning, retired the Roadrunners in order to record the win. In the game, Islas allowed one run on two hits while striking out six and didn't allow a walk.

Trailing, 1-0, Cerritos tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning. With runners at first and third base, Capps was able to execute a suicide squeeze bunt, which drove in freshman pinch-runner Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS).
