Because of all the rain earlier in the season, teams were forced to be creative in their scheduling. As a result, the Cerritos College softball team ended up needing to play Mt. San Antonio twice on Tuesday. Taking on the South Coast Conference leading Mounties, the Falcons dropped a pair of games. They suffered a 5-2 loss in the first game and followed that with a 7-2 setback in the second game. Cerritos will play their third straight road game on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against Pasadena City College.

In the first game, Mt. SAC jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first two innings. They scored three times in the first inning, with one of the runs scoring on a Cerritos error. They added a two-out, two-run double in the second inning.

The Falcons got on the board in the top of the third inning. Both Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) and Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) reached base on errors. Freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) doubled home the first run, while a sacrifice fly from sophomore starting pitcher Richere Leduc (California HS) plated the second run. They recorded a pair of hits in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not add to their run total.

The second game of the day saw the Mounties open a 7-0 lead through the first five innings before Cerritos had a response. They used a two-run home run in the third inning and added three straight run-scoring singles in the fourth inning to open their lead.

Cerritos picked up their two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Capps led off with a walk and stole second base before coming home on an RBI double from freshman catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton HS). With two outs, Sotelo slapped out an RBI single and finished the game with a pair of hits.

They had several ideal scoring chances in the top of the seventh in the second game. Leduc led off with a walk, followed by a base hit from sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS). Capps followed with a walk to load the bases with just one out. But Leduc was cut down at home plate on a fielder's choice and then Velazquez lined out to right field for the final out of the game.
