Softball: Pair of Falcons voted All-Southern California

For the second season in a row, the duo of pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) and first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) have earned post-season awards. The two, who were both All-State selections as freshmen, were named All-Southern California this year.

Islas, who is also a two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference choice, posted a 17-6 record with two saves through the regular season. She also tossed seven complete games and allowed 109 hits in 126 2/3 innings and struck out 69 with a 2.10 ERA. Islas was remarkable in the final eight games of the regular season, as she went 8-0 with an 0.79 ERA and pitched 44 2/3 innings over a 10-day span. She also had a stretch where she won four games in as many appearances and posted a 14-2 record over the final month of the season. Islas is tied for seventh in the state in wins heading into the postseason.

As for Leduc, another two-time 1st Team All-SCC pick, she hit .397 over the regular season and shared the team high with 15 doubles and 14 walks to go along with two home runs and 21 RBI. She also appeared in 12 games in the circle and posted a 1-3 record with three saves and 16 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. Her three saves came in the team's first five wins of the season. At one point during the season, Leduc had an eight-game hitting streak (13-for-27) and hits in 17 of the Falcons first 19 games. She had 14 multi-hit games on the year, which includes three hits in five different games. Leduc clubbed three doubles against Chaffey College and drove in a season-high four runs against East Los Angeles College. A superb defensive player, Leduc posted a .988 fielding percentage on the year.
