With the entire week consisting of rain make-up games, the Cerritos College softball team headed to Antelope Valley College on Tuesday for a doubleheader. In the first game, the Falcons scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to post a come-from-behind 9-7 win. They followed that game with a 6-3 loss to cap off their day. Cerritos (28-11) will close out their regular season schedule on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Palomar College.

Game 1 - Trailing, 6-2 and down to their final three outs, the Falcons found a power surge, as they hit three home runs to take an 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. With the wind blowing out, sophomore designated player Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) led the inning off with a solo home to get the comeback started. After freshman second baseman Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS) singled, freshman outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) was hit by a pitch. The two advanced a base on a wild pitch, which set the table for sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS), who launched her second home run of the game to tie the score at 6-6.

Cerritos wasn't done yet, as sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) walked to keep the inning going, where sophomore first baseman Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College) clubbed a two-run home run to give the Falcons their first lead of the game. That marked the first home run of the season for both Carbajal and Landeros. Continuing to see their bats come alive, sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) doubled and then came home on a single by Carbajal.

The Marauders weren't done, as Kylie Zinn led off the bottom of the stanza with a home run to make it a 9-7 game. Sophomore pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) then retired the inning to secure the victory for the Falcons.

The start of the game didn't go well for the Falcons, as Antelope Valley scored twice in the first and second innings, while they added a single run in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.

Macias finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored, while Carbajal was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Landeros drove in a pair.

Game 2 - Whereas the Falcons were able to come back in the first game on the strength of four home runs. Antelope Valley used the long ball to open up a sizeable lead in the second game. After hitting three of them in the first game, they clubbed three more through the first three innings to open up a 4-0 lead.

Cerritos did get a pair of runners on base in the top of the first inning, but came away empty.

They were able to cut their deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning, as Landeros led off with a walk, while Velazquez followed with a double. Cardenas then came through with a single that drove home both baserunners to make it a 4-2 game. Antelope Valley added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Falcons didn't go down easy, as they loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning. Consecutive singles by Manalo, Landeros and Velazquez gave Cerritos a last chance, while a passed ball allowed one run to score. Fontela then drew a walk to load the bases once again. That was as close as Cerritos could get and had to settle for a split of the two games.

Macias, who tossed the final two innings in the circle, also stole her 44th base of the season. That ties her for the second most steals in a season along with Joanna Perruccio, who recorded her total in 2014. It was also the first time since March 11 that Macias pitched in a game.
