As teammates on the Cerritos College women's basketball team during the 2015-16 season, Miranda Valentin and Kaylyn James helped the team advance to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Valentin, who was a sophomore, spent the next season as a member of the state champion Falcon track and field team as a long jumper and triple jumper, while James was named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference South Division in her second year on the Cerritos basketball team.

The two will be teammates once more, as they have both signed with NAIA Antelope Valley University, where they will each have two seasons with the Pioneers.

James, who led the team with a 15.3 scoring average, also led the team with 61 three-pointers made, shot 76.5% from the free throw line and opened the season with a career-high 31 points. She went on to score over 20 points five times in the year and recorded double-digit scoring in 23 of the team's 28 games, including 15 of the final 16 games. James also posted three double-doubles.

During her sophomore season in 2015-16, Valentin was a 2nd Team all-conference pick after accounting for 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. She posted a career-high 20 points against Los Angeles Trade-Tech College and accounted for 17 points against Santa Monica College. Her 15 rebounds against Fullerton College helped the Falcons to a win, while she posted four games with double-digit rebounds.

"I am so proud of the work James put in, both on the court and in the classroom," said head coach Trisha Raniewicz. "I believe that UAV is a great spot for her and she fits their system well and will be able to contribute right away. Looking forward to seeing her continue her career with a top NAIA school."

As for Valentin, Raniewicz stated, "A player who will impact both ends of the floor, Miranda is a two sport athlete who will no doubt make her presence known in the paint and in transition. Really happy she can continue her career with both basketball and track at UAV."

Last year, the Pioneers went 19-7 on the year and clinched the regular season California Pacific Conference Tournament title. They dropped their final four games of the year.
