With 3:26 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Cerritos College women's basketball team held a 57-50 lead over Rio Hondo College at the Irvine Valley Crossover on Friday night. The Falcons were limited to just two points the rest of the way, while the Roadrunners sent the game into overtime, where they went on to record a 67-62 win. The loss by Cerritos came three weeks after they defeated Rio Hondo in their first meeting. The Falcons (6-3) will take on the host Lasers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Cerritos, who was able to get off a last-second shot at the end of regulation, fell behind by four points in overtime before freshman Ilani Avila (Downey HS) converted a pair of free throws, which would be the final two from her 33-point performance. The Roadrunners (4-6) scored the next three points until freshman Brianna Flores (Norwalk HS) netted a pair of free throws with :27 seconds remaining to pull to within 65-62. Rio Hondo added a final bucket, while Cerritos ended up going 0-for-6 with two turnovers in the extra period.

The 33-points by Avila were the most scored by a Cerritos place since Marissa Rendon scored that many in 2012 against Fresno City College.

The Falcons led by as many as 11 points in the game and led the entire way until a three-pointer by Jennyfer Morales with 2:40 left in the third quarter made it a 42-41 Rio Hondo lead. Cerritos regained the lead on their next possession and didn't trail again until overtime.

Avila scored 13 of her points from the free throw line and also hit four three-pointers, while she also pulled down nine rebounds and posted five steals. Flores was the only other Falcon to score in double-figures, finishing with 15 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Therese Zekajj (Legacy HS) recorded 11 rebounds. Sophomore Precious Yerena (Downey HS) added eight points and five steals.
