Playing their first home game since December 8, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted a 66-54 South Coast Conference South Division win over Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday. The Falcons (11-7, 1-0), who have only played three home games this season, will travel to Long Beach City College on Wednesday before returning home for three consecutive games at The Aviary.

The Seahawks (7-10, 0-1) scored the first six points of the game before Cerritos scored 10 of the next 12 points. Then, trailing 18-13 late in the first quarter, the Falcons closed out the period with four straight points and carried that into the second quarter. After allowing the first four points, the Falcons shut out LA Harbor for the remaining 7:06 of the quarter. In that time, freshman Cynthia Estrada (John Glenn HS) accounted for five points, as the team took a 26-22 lead into halftime.

Freshman Izabella Apodaca (La Serna HS) opened the second half with a three-pointer for a 29-22 advantage, with sophomore Therese Zekajj (Legacy HS) and Apodaca following with baskets to see the lead swell to 33-22. It was a 36-22 lead before the Seahawks finally scored with 5:08 left in the third quarter, which ended a drought that lasted 11:58.

Even with Cerritos keeping the Seahawks off the board that long, they were able to draw to within 51-46 with 5:14 remaining. But it was freshman Ilani Avila (Downey HS) who netted four consecutive free throws to help the Falcons, while a jumper from Zekajj seemed to put the game away with 1:07 for a 61-52 lead. Avila, who finished with 15 points, made five of six free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

In addition to her 15 points, Avila also added 11 rebounds, four steals and four assists, while Estrada added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Zekajj accounted for 11 points and nine caroms, with freshman Brianna Flores (Norwalk HS) posting 10 points and eight rebounds.
