On Thursday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team opened their season with a 71-52 loss at Glendale College. The Falcons (0-1) will now open the Riverside City College Tournament with a 5:00 p.m. game against Solano College next Thursday.

A quick start to the first quarter had Cerritos leading, 17-10 after the first 10 minutes with sophomore Cynthia Almanzar (John Glenn HS) and freshman Bridgette McIntyre (St. Anthony HS) accounting for five points each, which included a three-pointer. But it was a cold second quarter where the Falcons only got off eight shots and turned the ball over five times that allowed the Vaqueros to take a 32-23 lead into halftime.

Down by as many as 10 points coming out of halftime, the Falcons drew to within 42-39 after a Miah Nayback (La Serna HS) jumper with 2:15 remaining. They ended the third quarter down, 47-42, but suffered another bad quarter in the fourth, with Glendale outscoring them, 24-10. It took Cerritos 2:45 before they scored in the fourth and by then, they were trailing, 55-42. After a pair of McIntyre free throws with 6:38 made it a 55-47 game, the Vaqueros outscore Cerritos, 16-3 the rest of the way.

McIntyre led the team with 14 points to go along with four rebounds, with freshman Valerie Romero (California HS) coming off the bench to contribute 12 points. Nayback and sophomore Brianna Flores (Norwalk HS) combined for 13 points and 11 rebounds for Cerritos.
