W. Basketball: Fourth quarter rally leads Falcons to win

Trailing the majority of the game, the Cerritos College women's basketball team found their hot hand in the fourth quarter, as they rallied to posted a 55-50 win over visiting Grossmont College on Wednesday night. The Falcons (3-2) will now host West Los Angeles College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Heading into the fourth quarter down, 39-33, Cerritos pulled to within 46-43 with 5:31 remaining on a three-pointer from freshman Miah Nayback (La Serna HS). The Falcons finally took the lead (48-46) when sophomore Brianna Flores (Norwalk HS) drained a three-pointer with 3:47 left on the clock. After a missed Griffins (0-1) shot and a follow-up, Flores spotted up and hit another three-pointer to extend the lead and added a third straight trey with 1:14 left to put the Falcons ahead, 54-48.

In the final five minutes of the game, Grossmont was 1-for-7 from the field with four turnovers, while the Falcons were 4-for-8 with two of them being three-pointers.

Grossmont opened the game by sprinting out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 25-17 lead at intermission. Cerritos came out in the second half and scored 38 points and forced 18 turnovers on defense.

Flores and freshman Bridgette McIntyre (St. Anthony HS) led the way with 13 points each, while Nayback finished with 11 points, nine steals, five rebounds and four assists. The duo of freshmen Siara Avila (Downey HS) and Valerie Romero (California HS) each came off the bench to pulled down four rebounds each, while Avila added four steals.
