Wrestling: Cerritos posts 33-20 conference win over Palomar

Taking on host Palomar College in a Southwest Conference match, the Cerritos College wrestling team picked up four wins by pin in a 33-20 victory on Thursday. The Falcons (10-2, 2-1) will turn right around and head to Central California to compete in the Bill Musick Tournament on Saturday at Fresno City College.

Cerritos opened the night by winning the first three weight classifications for a 15-0 team score advantage. At 125 pounds, freshman Christian Espinoza (Cerritos HS) received a win by forfeit, while freshman 133-pound Carlos Garcia (Magnolia HS) was able to pin Johnny Cervantes with just five seconds remaining in the first period. He was holding a comfortable 7-0 lead at the time of the pin. Freshman 141-pound Levi Waller (Heritage HS) hold a 3-1 lead through the first two periods in his match and added another takedown in the third period and went on for an 8-2 victory.

After the Comets picked up wins in the next two matches, sophomore 165-pound Cael Garriott (South Torrance HS) restored order with his third period pin over Edgar Silva, and was holding a 7-0 lead at the time. In the final two weights, the Falcons received pins by Armando Sandoval (Los Alamitos HS) in 5:21 at 197 pounds, with 285-pound sophomore Kobe Pablo (Cypress HS) needing only 2:20 to pin his opponent.
