Late Wednesday night, the Cerritos College wrestling team closed out their Southwest Conference season with a 29-13 win over host Santa Ana College. The Falcons (11-2, 3-1) finished in second place in the conference and will now head out of tow to compete in a dual match with Embry Riddle (AZ) University on Friday before competing in the school's open tournament on Saturday.

Cerritos clinched the match after winning the first five weights and opened a 23-0 lead. Helping along the way was 125-pound Carlos Garcia (Magnolia HS), who needed just 2:06 to pin Logan Rubio after opening a quick 3-0 lead. The team's other pin in the first half of the match came at 157 pounds, as Caoilte Drury (Westminster HS) opened a 10-1 first period lead against Ezeziel Huerter before pinning him in 2:48.

The duo of 133-pound Isaac Mendoza (Trabuco Hills HS) and 141-pound Jake Topartzer (San Juan Hills HS) won their respective matches, 6-4 and 6-2, with Mendoza recording all six of his points in the first period. Topartzer scored the match's only three-point takedown, which came in the first period and survived a second period reversal by Makoa Schefte to register the win. The Falcons also received an 18-1 technical fall win by Jasper Centeno (St. John Bosco HS) at 149 pounds and recorded near-fall points in each period, with his final one ending the match.

The team's other win came at 197 pounds, as Armando Sandoval (Los Alamitos HS) pinned David Calix in 2:40, which accounted for the team's final points. He scored a takedown and then got Calix on his back to close out the match with a pin.
