W. Track & Field: Cerritos stands out against four-year competition

Taking on a field full of four-year competition, the Cerritos College women's track and field team did very well at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons will get a week to continue to improve before they take part in the Rafer Johnson & Jackie Joyner Kersey Invitational at UCLA on March 26.

Highlighting the day was Aryianna Faircloth, who won the 100 meters with a time of 11.95, which was the best time out of 53 entries. Also competing for the Falcons was Jazzmine Davis, whose time of 12.49 put her in eighth place. The two also ran the first two legs of the 400-meter relay that posted a fourth place time of 49.14. Riyanna Jackson and Jordan Murphy were the other two runners on the relay. Jackson also competed in the javelin and turned in a fifth place distance of 30.09.

In the field events, Angelina Escobar did well in three events, as she placed fourth in the discus at 37.95 meters and recorded a sixth place distance in the javelin at 29.98 meters. Faitalia Ah-Fook finished in seventh place in the hammer with a distance of 39.56 with Escobar right behind in eighth place at 39.23 meters. In the triple jump, Gia McLin saw her distance of 9.99 meters put her in sixth place overall.
