Volleyball: Pair named to all-conference teams

After completing their season on a winning note, two members of the Cerritos College volleyball team have been named All-South Coast Conference. Sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Alexia Torres (Downey HS), who finished second on the team in kills was named to the 1st Team, while the team's leader in kills, sophomore outside hitter Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS), was voted onto the 2nd Team.

Sierra Hernandez-Hardy led the team in kills and was named 2nd Team all-conference Torres finished the season with 191 kills, while leading the team with 48 total blocks. Also effective in the back row, she recorded 65 digs and added 15 service aces. Over the course of the season, Torres had two occasions where she turned in double-digit kills in four consecutive matches, while she concluded the season with a high of 14 kills and added a season-high 14 digs. She produced 13 kills against Pasadena City College and turned in 12 kills in five other matches. Torres had a season-high six blocks against El Camino College and had a three-game stretch where she posted a combined 15 blocks. For good measure, Torres capped off her career with a season-high three service aces.

As for Hernandez-Hardy (pictured, left), she led the team with 206 kills on the season and finished second on the team with 185 digs. The team's most efficient server, Hernandez-Hardy led the team with 31 aces and also added 20 blocks. In the team's season-ending win over East Los Angeles College, Hernandez-Hardy hit a career-best .450 at the net, which resulted in a career-high 21 kills. In another match against the Huskies, Hernandez-Hardy finished with 18 kills and ended up recording nine games where she posted double-figure kills. She posted a season-high 17 digs against Los Angeles Harbor College and helped the team with 16 digs from the back row against Santa Ana College.
