Playing with more precision at the net, the Cerritos College volleyball team improved their season record to 6-2, while they are now 2-0 in South Coast Conference play after a 25-14, 25-12 25-18 win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday night. The win was the third in a row for the Falcons, who will host Mt. San Antonio at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday.

Once Cerritos took a lead in each of the sets, they never relinquished it, while they reduced their service errors from 17 in their last match to just six against the Huskies (3-3, 0-2). And just like they have all season, the team continued to play well in the back row and saved multiple attacks to keep rallies going.

Turning in one of her better performances of the season was freshman Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS), who slammed home nine kills without an error, while she led the back row with 15 digs. Joining her effectively at the net was freshman Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS), who had just two attack errors to go with her team-high 10 kills. Freshman setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) dished out 38 assists in a solid performance and added three service aces and seven digs.

Despite a less than ideal attack percentage, freshman Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) did many other things well, as she posted 10 digs to go with her eight kills and even chipped in with an assist. Off the bench, Ava Villaflores (La Mirada HS) added three kills, while freshman Abigail Gutierrez (Downey HS) was looked to when the team needed a boost, and she came through with seven kills and six digs. Leading the service attack was freshman Maleah Gonzales (Schurr HS), who had a season-high six aces, while adding four kills without an error.
