In their South Coast Conference match against host Compton College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team played a near perfect match. In their 25-7, 25-4, 25-7 win, the Falcons (8-3, 4-1) committed just three attack errors and recorded 22 service aces. They team will turn right around and travel to El Camino College on Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. conference match.

A win like that opens the door for everyone on the team to see action, and the Falcons had some superb performances. In each of the sets, Cerritos scored points in bunches, which led to them posting a .675 hitting percentage, compared to the negative hitting percentage turned in by Compton.

The freshmen duo of Madison Borja (La Mirada HS) and Ava Villaflores (La Mirada HS) came off the bench to combine for 12 kills in as many attempts, while freshman Maleah Gonzales (Schurr HS) added five kills in six attempts to go along with a season-high eight service aces. Freshman setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) directed the offense with 22 assists to accompany her pair of kills and four service aces. Freshman Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) produced four kills in the win with the trio of Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS), Sonye Garcia (Paramount HS) and Abigail Gutierrez (Downey HS) each turning in a pair of kills.
