Taking a three-match winning streak into their South Coast Conference match against first place Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, the Cerritos College volleyball team saw the streak come to an end with a loss. The 19-25, 18-25, 19-25 setback drops the Falcons record to 4-13 on the season and 2-6 in conference play. The team will travel to El Camino College on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. match.

Taking on a Mounties team that was taller and had a deeper bench, the Falcons extended many of the points with great back row work from sophomores Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) and Abby Gutierrez (Downey HS), who combined for 36 digs. Playing from behind in each of the three sets, Cerritos came on strong in the latter parts of the sets with hopes of extending the match. But the Mounties (15-4, 7-2) had too much firepower for the Falcons.

Sophomore Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) led the team with 10 kills, while freshman Kira Magdaleno (Artesia HS) added six kills without an attacking error. Sophomore setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) directed the offense with 22 assists, while adding six digs to go along with a pair of block assists and two kills.
