In their final home match of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team suffered a 16-25, 16-25, 25-20, 16-25 setback at the hands of Pasadena City College on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons (4-16, 2-9) close out the season next Tuesday when they travel to Long Beach City College for a 6:00 p.m. match.

Taking on the Lancers (15-7, 5-5), Cerritos found themselves trailing early in each of the first two sets. They were able to right the ship midway through the two sets, but saw Pasadena City turn a 14-12 lead in the first set to a 20-12 advantage and a after jumping out to an 8-0 start in the second set, held off any Falcons challenge.

Cerritos took their first lead of the day in the third set at 8-7 after a Lancers attack error. They turned that into a 15-10 lead after a trio of attack errors and a kill from sophomore Sonye Garcia (Paramount HS). The Lancers closed to within 15-14 until kills from Garcia, Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) and Kaydence Portillo (Bell Gardens HS) were joined by a pair of attack errors for a 21-14 advantage. Kira Magdaleno (Artesia HS) recorded the winning point in the set with a service ace.

Remaining close in the fourth set, the Falcons trailed 13-10 until Pasadena City scored seven of the next eight points to take a 20-11 lead. A pair of attack errors, coupled with a bad set were enough for the Lancers to finish off the win.

Sierra led the team with 10 kills, while Portillo and Garcia each recorded eight kills for the Falcons. Sophomore Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) posted 29 digs from the back row, with setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) dishing out 29 assists and added nine digs.
