After being named the South Coast Conference Libero of the Year, Cerritos College volleyball player Breanna Lizarraga has committed to Whittier College. A defensive specialist for the Falcons, Lizarraga is the first Falcon to make a four-year commitment.

"I chose Whittier because it's close to home and I love the atmosphere that the girls and the coach created to make me feel comfortable and welcomed," Lizarraga told the college's athletic department.

On the season, Lizarraga amassed 363 digs, which led the conference and ranked as the fifth most in a season in school history, while her 649 career digs ranks her second behind Naomi Hobayan, who recorded 740 digs from 2004-05. She also led the team with 31 service aces and also added 38 assists. She had a season-high 29 digs against Pasadena City College and had over 20 digs in four matches.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to play at a higher level, as well as creating new memories with my new teammates," added Lizarraga.

She is the third Falcon to sign with the Poets and the first since Natalie Barajas in 2007.
