From 2005-09, Brenda Villa served as an assistant coach with the Cerritos College women's water polo team. He helped the team win the school's lone CCCAA State Championship (2008), while they were a combined 135-26 (.839) during her time helping head coach Sergio Macias in his first five years with the Falcons. They also won their first South Coast Conference championship in school history (2006) on their way to three titles and four Southern California Regional Playoff appearances.

Last week, Villa was named the Pac-12 Player of the Century based on her remarkable collegiate career. During her playing career at the University of Stanford, Villa was the program's most heralded recruit after a storied career at Bell Gardens High School as a member of the boy's team and a teammate of Macias. She red-shirted for two seasons to train for the Olympics and went on to score 69 goals in her freshman season (2001) and was named the NCAA Women's Water Polo Player of the Year. In the three years she played with the Cardinal, Villa scored 172 goals and led Stanford to the NCAA National Championship in 2002. She was also awarded the Peter J. Cutino Award as the top female college water polo player in the United States.

Her international career included playing in four Olympic Games, where she won a gold medal (2012), as well as two bronze medals and one silver medal. Villa has won 20 championships over the course of her international career and recently had the opening of the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, CA.
