On Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team only trailed once (1-0) against visiting Chaffey College in their South Coast Conference match, and went on for a 10-8 victory. Winners of two in a row, the Falcons (2-5, 2-0) will enter the Golden West Tournament this weekend for four games, with one of them being a conference game against East Los Angeles College.

After surrendering the first goal of the game, Cerritos scored the next four goals, with sophomores Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) and Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) trading goals. The Panthers drew to within 5-4 in the second quarter, but held them without a goal for the final 3:44 of the half. Prior to intermission, sophomore Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) scored with :48 seconds remaining to take a 6-4 lead into intermission.

Chaffey once again drew to within a goal at 6-5 in the third quarter, but Romero scored two straight goals to regain the three-goal lead. Unable to add to their lead, Cerritos saw the Panthers close out the quarter with two goals to make it an 8-7 game with eight minutes remaining.

Glynn and sophomore Jillian Crockett (Cerritos HS) scored on the team's first two possessions to make it 10-7 and although they wouldn't score the rest of the game, their defense came up with several steals to come away with the 10-8 win.

The Falcons, who finished with 11 steals, received four of them from Romero along with her five goals, while Alvarez and Glynn each scored twice. Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) turned away eight shots in goal for the win.
