W. Cross Country: Trip south results in fifth place finish

For the second week in a row, the Cerritos College women's cross country team headed south to compete in an invitational. The Falcons took fifth place at the Manny Bautista XC Invitational, which was held at NTC Park. The team compiled 129 team points for their fifth place result out of 10 complete teams. Next Saturday, Cerritos will make their way north to run in the Bronco Invitational, which is being held at Baylands Park in Santa Clara.

The first Falcon to complete the 5K course was sophomore Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS), whose time of 20:03.8 was 12th out of 126 runners, while sophomore Samantha Martinez (Fountain Valley HS) wasn't too far behind the early pack of runners. Her time of 20:27.0 was good for 25th overall, as 15 runners all finished within 25 seconds of each other.

Freshman Evelyn Mejia (Norwalk HS) also ran a strong race and crossed the finish line in a time of 20:50.0, which was good enough for 35th place overall. Cerritos received a 55th place finish from Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS), whose posted a time of 21:43.2, with Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS) registering a 63rd place time of 22:34.7, as she completed the team scoring.

Also running in the race for the Falcons were Ariel Alvarez (Firebaugh HS; 23:36.5; 74th place), Diana Perez (Norwalk HS; 23:45.5; 76th place), Leslie Juarez (Warren HS; 23:55.1; 75th place), Lila Palmer (Long Beach Poly HS; 23:59.2; 76th place), Jasmine Osorio (Segerstrom HS; 24:25.7; 82nd place), Claudia Rios (Paramount HS; 25:24.9; 90th place), Natalia Orta (Norwalk HS; 26:35.8; 101st place) and Viviana Rodriguez (Santa Fe HS; 28:37.1; 108th place).
