On the heels of a successful 2022 season, where the Cerritos College football team went 8-3 on the year and captured the championship of the Western State Bowl, players from that team are now moving on to four-year colleges. With the announcement of three more players, the Falcons now have nine who have made their commitments to the next level. The team could possibly have as many as 20 more who make their decisions by the end of the summer.
The three latest to announce their commitments were linebacker Giovanni De Leon, along with defensive linemen Alama Collins and Izaac Tauiliili. They are joined by defensive end Diego Barrera (New Mexico Highlands University), running back Davon Booth (Utah State University), Jayden Dunlap (Brigham Young University), Edward Fonua (Fresno State University), Milo Lopez (Boise State University) and Zyier Thornton (New Mexico State University).
De Leon has committed to the University of Buffalo, while Collins and Tauiliili will both be transferring to Missouri State University. De Leon and Tauiliili were 2nd Team All-National Division Central League. De Leon was second among linebackers with 45 stops, which included a season-high eight tackles against El Camino. He also had four tackles for loss, 1 1/2 quarterback sacks and picked off a pass, while Tauiliili recorded 26 stops on the season, added five tackles for loss and recovered a fumble against El Camino. He also added 2 1/2 tackles for loss in that game. As for Collins, he registered 28 tackles and contributed 7 1/2 quarterback hurries, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Eight of the nine who have committed to their four-year schools are Division I colleges.
