Cerritos College freshman swimmer Eugene Runas (Long Beach Millikan HS) placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke at the CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College on Friday. His time of 58.18 was his best of the season and helped the Falcons earn points in the team standings. After the second day, Cerritos sits in a tie for 15th place with Modesto College, with the third day of events taking place on Saturday. Runas will be swimming in the 200-yard breaststroke, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team will also compete.

In addition to Runas swimming, the 200-yard medley relay team came in 12th place and came close to setting a new school record. The quartet of sophomores Enrico Hidalgo (Kennedy HS) and Joshua Hanein (Warren HS/Stevens Institude of Technology, NJ CC), along with freshmen Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) and Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) finished with a time of 1:37.74, which was just shy of the mark of 1:37.28 the was set in 1998.

On the first day of the state championships, the foursome of Owens, Runas, Umpornpickdi and Delgado set a new school record in the 400-yard medley relay. On the year, the Falcons have set three new relay school record.
