M. Tennis: Cerritos records 9-0 win over Orange Coast

The Cerritos College men's tennis team recorded a 9-0 non-conference win over host Orange Coast College on Friday. Ranked #3 in Southern California, the Falcons improved to 8-1 on the year, while the Pirates (6-1) suffered their first loss of the season. The team opens South Coast Conference play at home next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College (6-1, 1-0).

Once Cerritos got past a couple of close doubles matches, they took control in singles play and won all six in straight sets. At the top of the doubles ladder, sophomore Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya) resumed play with partner Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cypress HS) and they posted an 8-5 win. Freshmen Mark Antoniuk (W. 124 School, Russia) and Agustin Lombardi (E.S.O.S., Argentina) pulled out an 8-6 win over Chris Chiu and Anthony Thai, which carried over into singles action.

Antoniuk (6-1, 6-3) and Lombardi (6-2, 6-1) had strong wins in the #4 and #6 positions, respectively, while freshman Henry Ayesiga (Malezi School, Kenya) solidified the bottom half of the ladder with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5.

As for Kagoma, who remained undefeated in singles play with his 6-3, 6-4 decision, while Torrebella-Clark came away with a 6-3, 7-5 win. Freshman Mathieu David (Nimes, France) finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win while playing in the #3 singles spot.
