Playing in a tournament that boasts some of the best teams in the state, the Cerritos College men's water polo team is hoping to be included in that list. On the first day of the Riverside Tournament, the Falcons opened with a 14-12 win over the host Tigers (9-5) and then saw their 15-match winning streak come to an end with a 15-5 loss to defending state champion Golden West College (13-0). On Saturday, the team will play both Diablo Valley College (11-9) and crosstown rival Long Beach City College (7-1).

Cerritos vs. Riverside: The Falcons opened up a sizable 6-1 lead after the first period, thanks to the scoring prowess of freshman Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and sophomore Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela). The Tigers slowly started working their way back into the game and Cerritos led just 12-9 heading into the final period. Sophomore goalie Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) came up big with 13 blocks in the win, with sophomores Peter Roldan (Downey HS) and Matthew Skinas (La Serna HS) each coming up with three steals. When he wasn't scoring, Rojas was leading the team with four assists, as freshman Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) contributed three goals and freshman Israel Rodriguez (Whittier HS) added a pair of goals in the win.

Cerritos vs. Golden West: It was a close game at the start, with the Falcons taking a 2-1 lead after the first period. But the Rustlers put seven in the net in the second period, which enabled them to take a 9-4 advantage at halftime. Cerritos hurt themselves with 14 turnovers and allowed four short-handed goals. Angel Rojas had two goals, with Roldan matching his steal total from the first game. De La Mora started in goal, with freshman Ariel Prado-Madera (Buena Park HS) stepping in to post five blocks in relief.
